Golden Oldies Festival Programme

Below is the programme of events that you will be enjoying for your week long festival. Please note that as the event is taking place in September 2008 the schedule below may be subject to change.  To take advantage of the tours and functions mentioned below take a look here for all Golden Oldies packages that are available.

 

Pre-Festival Day - Sunday 31 August

Fireworks at Edinburgh Castle

You have the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular Bank of Scotland Fireworks Concert, the largest annual fireworks concert in Europe choreographed to the music of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Each year this is one of the most spectacular displays anywhere in the world.  

 

 

 

 

 Day 1 - Monday 1 September

Looking over George IV Bridge to the historic Edinburgh Castle In the evening, all participants will gather at the picturesque Edinburgh Castle for an unforgettable opening ceremony and civic welcome. The Parade of Nations will then see each team make their way down the Royal Mile, along the historic George IV Bridge to the picturesque meadows for an Opening Party you will not forget. The opening party takes place at the spectacular 'Spiegel Garden' in George Square. Each year, for one month only, the Edinburgh University's beautiful George Square gardens are transformed into a weird and wonderful venue, packed with beer stands, cafes, BBQs and a whole caravan of circus tents.

The Spiegel Tent which will be open exclusively to Golden Oldies teams on the opening night, sits at the heart of Festival Fringe activity. It will provide a stunning and unique venue along with an amazing party atmosphere to welcome Golden Oldies in a spectacular start to a week long festival. Prepare to be dazzled and entertained, leaving no doubt that you are a part of the one of the most memorable Golden Oldies Festivals so far! 

 

Day 2 - Tuesday 2 September

Murrayfield First day of games at Murrayfield, Roseburn and Saughton Park.

Day 3 - Wednesday 3 September

Join us for our Highland Fling day out at Musselburgh's Racecourse . An afternoon of traditional and non-traditional Scottish fun. All whilst enjoying a 'Taste of Scotland' food and drink.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 4 - Thursday 4 September

Second day of rugby at Murrayfield, Roseburn and Saughton Park.

Day 5 - Friday 5 September

Glasgow Gailes Golf Course

Time out! A day of leisure. Optional sightseeing tours available or for those inclined, golf on one of Scotland's famous links courses.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Day 6 - Saturday 6 September

Third and final day of games at Murrayfield, Roseburn and Saughton Park.

Finish off the day with 'Party on the Pitch' and have a few drinks at the grounds as you enjoy the Scottish entertainment laid on for you whilst telling your rugby stories to the friends you've made over the past week.

 

Day 7 - Sunday 7 September

Grand finale dinner
The Grand Finale Dinner will be held at The Royal Highland Centre in Ingliston situated only a few miles west of Edinburgh city. A three course dinner will be provided with beer, wine and soft drinks. There will also be music, entertainment and an awards ceremony.....providing a fantastic finale to a truly magnificent festival.

 

Day 8 - Monday 8 September

Looking over Princes Street Gardens towards Edinburgh Castle
