Scotland National Team
Scotland boasts a proud rugby heritage and its International rugby weekends bring the country to life with thousands of visiting fans mixing with the local rugby followers creating an unrivalled blend of camaraderie and friendly banter.
Their first international in March 1871, ended in a 4-1 win for Scotland against England and so began the rivalry between the two national teams that still exists today and creates a great atmosphere when they go up against each other every year for the Calcutta Cup. Scotland held this Cup after their famous victory in 2006 beating England 18-12 however it returned to England after their opener in the 2007 Six Nations Championship.
Since the start of the Five Nations, which existed up to 2000, Scotland won the tournament a total of 14 times but has yet to win since the tournament increased to Six Nations. Their biggest victory to date came in 2004 when they beat Japan 100-8 and their best World Cup placing so far was in 1991 when they finished fourth. A placing they had hoped to beat at the IRB Rugby World Cup 2007 but unfortunately they bowed out in the quarter finals. Their attention will now be placed on a successful 6 Nations tournament at the beginning of 2008. For fixtures check here.
