  • Scottish rugby dates back to 1871 where they beat England in the first international rugby union match at Raeburn Place.
  • Their best Rugby Union World Cup placing came in 1991 when they finished fourth.
  • Before 2000, the Six Nations tournament was known as Five Nations, which Scotland won a total of 14 times since it began in 1883. They were also the last Five Nations Champions.
  • Scotland achieved 100 points for the first time in November 2004 after defeating an inexperienced Japan side by 92 points.
  • Scotland's worst defeat was in 1997 against South Africa when they were defeated 68 - 10.
  • Scotland's home ground at Murrayfield has a seated capacity of 67,800.
  • During the Second World War the ground at Murrayfield was offered to the nation and was taken over by the Royal Army Service Corps and used as a supply depot.
  • The legendary Gavin Hastings won 61 caps for Scotland, 20 of which as captain. He scored 17 tries for Scotland placing him third on Scotland's all time list during his retirement.
  • Scott Hastings won 65 caps for Scotland. He and his brother Gavin earned their first cap on January 17, 1986 against France. On his retirement he was Scotland's most capped player.
  • As full back for Scotland, Andy Irvine won 51 caps between 1972-82. He is generally regarded as one of the best attacking full backs of the modern era with his penetrating run up from the back being his trade mark.
