Touch World Cup 2011

Scotland beat off strong competition from New Zealand to win the bid to host the next Touch World Cup in 2011. The Scottish Touch Association presented their bid to the Federation of International Touch at the recent World Cup in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The Inspiring Capital DVD was used to introduce the bid, giving a very comprehensive overview of what Edinburgh had to offer international visitors. 


Squad for the Touch World Cup 2007Touch is a rapidly growing sport in Scotland and it is estimated that 5,000 people now play regularly in organised competitions throughout Scotland. Bringing the World Cup to Edinburgh will be a springboard for the further development of Touch in Scotland, and the northern hemisphere as a whole. It is estimated that more than 20 countries from around the world and around 1,000 participants will be represented at the event. The event will be held in the summer of 2011 at Goldenacre, home of Heriot’s RFC, the same venue as for the Maclay Murray & Spens European Touch Championships (July 2006).
